I planned Corrine’s two year old party in about 2 weeks with my very limited and precious free time. Corrine loves Sesame Street and of course loves Elmo and Abby. So naturally, we had a Sesame Street themed party. And where did I go for inspiration? You guessed it, Pinterest. How did anyone plan parties without the help of Pinterest??? (I wish it was around when I got married, could you imagine the diy decor! I bet you can because you’ve probably been to a wedding designed on Pinterest, but I digress)
Do a Pinterest search for Sesame Street birthday party ideas…… And look at what comes up? Who in the hell has the time, budget and patience to put something to together like that for a toddler’s birthday party? I’m sickened to know that there are moms out there that will make a huge fuss over their child’s party. Truly, all that fuss is to impress her guests and brag about it on Pinterest. There will always be someone out there doing better things, planning more elaborate parties, decorating a more organized house and cooking up a tastier recipe than me. And I’m ok with that.
So I collected a few crafty ideas on my Sesame Street board and went with it.
I was going to make homemade Elmo cupcakes and boy I’m glad I didn’t. The rest of my craftiness for decor took all of my prep day on Friday. Plus I’m sure it could have turned into a Pinterest fail. Sorta like this:
However, the Pinterest pins I did try (character pom poms and character goodie bags), turned out pretty good actually, especially since the characters were easily recognizable by Corrine. I was a little bummed when almost all my “YES” RSVPs cancelled at the last minute 🙁 but the party was still fun with only a few little kids running around. We rented a bounce house and it was hit with everyone, including the adults.
Here is a snap shot of the day in photos:
The best part of the day was seeing her light up when she first saw the decorations. She even pointed Elmo and Abby out! Corrine was a little timid of the bounce house at first. But once we got in there with her, she warmed up to it. And once the kids got tired of the bounce house, the adults got to have a little fun. It was a workout especially when my husband tried to tackle me like an NFL quarterback.
I’m so glad I didn’t try to take on too much crafty DIY things, but it was fun to create a few special things for her birthday party. It’s still hard to believe that my little girl is two now. She’s growing up too damn fast.
What did your weekend look like?
