Joelle turned 10 months on May 2nd and she’s getting less and less baby and more and more toddler. Unfortunately, it just occurred to me that I haven’t weighed her this month and she’s sleeping now, so I’ll have to judge based on the weight I pick up multiple times a day. She’s probably 18 ish pounds and on the border of 9 month and 12 month clothes. (Update: after her nap, I weighed her. And she’s lighter than I thought at 17lbs 4 oz). Still no distinct words, although she does babble a whole lot. She does distinguish the ma ma ma sound when I’m around or the da da da sound when daddy gets home. I wouldn’t call it a full word though.
She’s a very efficient crawler and walking is coming sooner than I want it to. She’s cruising all over the place now as she has mastered the pull up and now is on to putting one foot in front of the other. Her most favorite thing to push is this walker toy from V-tech.
Now, all I have to do is place her in the living room and wherever that toy is, she will scamper over to it, pull herself up and start flying. With Corrine, it was different. Corrine started walking much later (at about 13 months) and she was more cautious and hesitant. Joelle, is a speedy little girl. She can push this thing from the living room all the way past the kitchen and into the laundry room without missing a step, literally. She’ll be walking before she’s a year old (sniffle sniffle).
I happened to come home from an early Saturday morning class at the gym to that going on. It was the first time I’d seen her push the walker for more than one or two steps. She continued with this for multiple passes back and forth. Aint nothing gonna stop this kid!
One thing I want to remember about this stage is the way she crawls while holding on to something. If she’s got a toy she doesn’t want to let go of, she’ll just turn her hand up holding on to it and crawl on the back side of her wrist. Kinda like a gorilla would. I need to make sure I take a picture or video of it because it’s quite ingenious and very cute.
Joelle has three teeth and the fourth is about to emerge any day now. She started with the bottom center two teeth and then the third was not one of the top center like most kids. Nope. Her third tooth to make an appearance is the 2nd one off center on the top. And the fourth one coming in is the same one on the other side. She’s got a unique smile right now! I call her my little snaggle tooth.
She’s continuing to grow her tastes and preferences. She’s still an avocado lover in fact, she ate almost an entire one today for lunch with deli turkey meat diced in. She’s not much of a veggie lover yet, with the exception of sweet potatoes and french fries. She’s not much of a fan of carrots (I think she expects them to be sweet potatoes so she spits them out), peas or green beans. I need to serve her more pinto and black beans.
We celebrated Mother’s Day the same way for the past 2 years by touring around the St. Louis Zoo. It was pretty coincidental that we took almost the same pictures in the same pictures of course with the addition of Joelle.
Here are some of the snap shots during our 10 month photo session. Enjoy!
