Joelle turned 9 months on April 2nd. Her monthly photo sessions are proving very difficult to do by myself. She’s now very mobile and crawls everywhere yet never where I want her. Forget about keeping the 9 month sticker on her tummy. That thing gets ripped off the second it is placed on her and she puts it directly in her mouth. We are headed to her 9 month well baby check up on Monday. I’ll get her latest height and weight but I’m thinking she weighs somewhere around 17 lbs based on me weighing her in my arms on my bathroom scale.
What’s new with this little girl?
She has the best expressions! I’m lucky enough to capture a whole bunch, although most are on my phone so the quality isn’t the best. For your viewing pleasure: the best of Joelle’s expressions in the past month.
She’s been busy mastering crawling off her belly and on all fours. Previously, she had been getting around using the bear crawl technique but now she’s getting good at really crawling. Yet, the bear crawl is still her go-to mode if she wants to get across the room quick!
Joelle’s sleeping skills continue to get better! She consistently sleeps through the night (knock on wood) and is learning to soothe herself to sleep. Often times I put her down wide awake at night and she’ll be asleep in about 15 minutes. But it hasn’t always been that easy. We did give her the chance to cry and fuss. We don’t want her dependent on us to rock her to sleep. So, we’ve eased her into learning how to do it herself. The first few times we tried to just put her in bed, drowsy but not asleep didn’t go well. She had a hard time settling in to sleep. But along with everything else she’s learned so far, it’s just taken time and practice for her to get better at it. And now, she’s doing great. Naps are no longer a toss up whether or not she’ll sleep. As long as I get her down for her long nap before 2, she’s seems to fall asleep quickly and sleep soundly for a good 2 hours.
I think Joelle is going to be a much more independent kid. She loves to feed herself and is starting to fuss for things she wants. Example, today at lunch she had watermelon first then some veggies in a cheese sauce. The watermelon was still out on the table because I was eating some. She fussed and wouldn’t eat her veggies until I gave her more watermelon. Maybe I should have given her the veggies first. In fact, I know I should have. The dietitian in me knows better. Always offer the sweet foods last.
Overall, she’s doing really well with food. Joelle loves to feed herself, so I’m doing my best to find a variety of finger foods to feed her. Some of her favorites: mac n cheese, avocado, watermelon, banana, taco ground beef, and yogurt.
Favorite activities: spinning around in daddy’s arms, jumping on/in anything (her jumper or anyone holding her), playing her piano and playing “story bots” on the ipad.
And she is starting to pull up, so walking is coming soon!
Yep, Joelle is still a little peanut as compared to Corrine at this age. Which I don’t mind because she’s much easier to carry at this size 🙂
Some more shots of my sweet little girl.
Dang, my kids have crazy blue eyes! Seriously, I can’t even.
