Hey there! So yes, it’s been awhile since I posted last but believe me, I haven’t been sitting around doing nothing! Thanksgiving was really busy for me because two days prior my husband had surgery on his knee and has been a permanent residence of the couch since then. I’ve been busy playing the role of nurse, errand runner, chef, baby and kid wrangler to name a few. Thankfully, I’ve had help. His parents stayed for a week and my mom has been coming over to help me with the kids. So it hasn’t been all that bad, plus Dave is home from work and he’s good company 🙂
So this little lady is growing up! Joelle turned 5 months on December 2nd. And she’s definitely showing her personality. She’s a frequent talker, rolly poly, loves her feet and still isn’t a great napper although nights are still pretty solid for the most part. By my estimate, she is 14 lbs 3 oz by weighing myself holding her and then subtracting my weight. Her sister was a hefty 17 lbs 9 oz at five months. Dang, that’s quite a difference.
I mean really…. look at that face!
Joelle loves to hold her toys and bring them to her face. She might even have a conversation with a baby doll, that is if her sister lets her hold one long enough. I’ve learned recently that she likes to have something in her hands to soothe her when she’s a little cranky and anything seems to do. She’ll play with my scarf or shirt or her blankie. Joelle most certainly loves her bumblebee. She’d chew on the antennae all day if I would let her. She’s definitely teething and I’m expecting her first tooth to pop through any day now.
She’s still a big fan of her feet. Anytime they are sock-less or sleeper-less, she’s fascinated by them. If I need her to relax by herself, I’ll place her in the rock-n-play and take off her socks. She’s going to be a yogi 😉
I decided to get out our bouncer that Corrine used when she was this age and it’s turned out to be another favorite. In fact, she spent an entire hour in it the first time. Check out the video….. oh so cute!
Corrine decided to take over Joelle’s photo shoot. She can be such a ham especially when there’s a camera involved. All I have to say is “cheese” and she gives me the cheesiest grin!
Plus this is photographic evidence that I got her to wear a headband! And she wore it the rest of the night. But refused to wear it today. I tried! I have to laugh at that expression in the last photo. You can almost hear her saying “sissy stop it.” Stop it. It’s her favorite thing to say these days. I guess that’s probably because she hears me say it so much!
In other news, Joelle had her first bite of baby cereal yesterday (Dec 3rd). She’s been reaching for our plates, forks, straws or anything she can get her hands on for the past couple of weeks. Basically saying….. hey mom, I’m ready for food! Give it to me! So we did.
It was important to me to allow Joelle to tell me when she was ready to eat solid food. When she started showing interest in meal time, I knew she was ready. Joelle happily accepted each bite of oatmeal cereal and even demanded more. I had to mix up two more small dishes to satisfy her. And I’m sure it wasn’t a coincidence that right after this meal, she slept for 3 long uninterrupted hours!
I’m looking forward to Joelle trying fruits and vegetables soon. It’s an exciting time when a baby can try something new every few days. Moreover, it’s important for a baby’s development. At 6 months of age, a baby is developmentally ready to feed himself/herself soft, easily digestible, small pieces of appropriate food, like very ripe bananas, mashed avocados, soft bread, sweet potatoes. Not only does it improve hand eye coordination, allowing a baby to handle food teaches them about textures and temperature.
I’m also looking forward to letting Corrine feed sissy. She had such a good time this first time and it’s good for her to develop her nurturing side.
That’s all for now.
Question for you: I’m thinking ahead about writing a more posts, are there any specific topics you want to read about?
